Star Wars Holiday Special

On November 17th, 1978 CBS aired the 97 minute Star Wars Holiday Special.  It was only aired once and never officially released again for the public to see.  It’s considered by many Star Wars fans the “black sheep” of the franchise, and George Lucas has been quoted saying “If I had the time and a sledgehammer, I would track down every copy of that show and smash it.”.

Surprisingly enough many of the actors from Star Wars A New hope (the only film released at the time) appeared in this special, including Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels and more.

The show is completely random and features music including the band Jefferson Starship making an appearance.  The saving grace for this Holiday Special is the mini cartoon segment called “The Faithful Wookiee”, which was produced by Canadian animation studio Nelvana, who later produced the Ewoks and Droids cartoons in the mid 80’s.
